Biographical Information[edit]

Kairi Shimada has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Shimada represented Japan in the 2017 Universiade. He was drafted by the Hanshin Tigers in the 4th round of the 2017 NPB draft. He hit .237/.337/.276 with 26 steals in the minors in 2018, and he ranked 2nd in steals in the Western League (1 behind Ukyo Shuto). He went 7-for-35 with the big club, and he also represented Japan in the 2018 U-23 Baseball World Cup. He hit .344/.462/.469 in that event with 12 runs, 7 walks and 5 steals (in 6 tries) in 9 games. He tied Dong-hui Han for the run lead, was one walk shy of leader Carlos Vidal and was third in swipes, one off the pace.

The Kumamoto native only got 4 at-bats in 2019, and he went 3-for-17 in 2020. He had a .243/.293/.286 batting line in 57 games in 2021, and he also led the minor leagues with 21 steals. He finally got some chances in 2022, and he played 123 games with a .264/.303/.299 batting line and 21 steals as Hanshin's starting right fielder. He was 5th in steals in the Central League, between Takumu Nakano and Naoki Yoshikawa. However, Shimada lost his spot after Shota Morishita joined the team, and he hit .145/.217/.191 in 101 games in 2023. He recorded a .275/.363/.300 batting line in 62 games in 2024.
