Biographical Information[edit]

Utility player Justin Martin played in the Pittsburgh Pirates system from 1999 to 2001, peaking at Double-A. He was taken by the club in the 16th round of the 1999 amateur draft, a couple picks after infielder Matt Watson.

He hit .268/.389/.284 with 28 stolen bases and 38 walks for the Hickory Crawdads and Williamsport Crosscutters his first season, then he batted .262/.377/.293 with 37 steals in 98 games for the Lynchburg Hillcats in 2000. Between Lynchburg and the Altoona Curve in 2001, he hit .307/.369/.357 with 20 steals in 113 games). Overall, he batted .281/.377/.315 with no home runs, 59 RBI, 85 steals and 127 walks in 265 games (891 ABs) over three seasons. He had just 29 extra base hits—27 doubles and 2 triples.
