Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher John Turlais played for three organizations and two independent teams in a career than spanned from 1992 to 1997. He peaked at High A and spent three (1992-1994) of his six years in rookie ball.
He was taken by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 10th round of the 1992 amateur draft, a couple picks after pitcher Brad Clontz. He remained in the Pirates system through 1993, then joined the New York Mets system for 1994. In 1995, he played for the independent Surrey Glaciers of the Western Baseball League. 1996 was a career year, as he hit .321/.386/.546 with 11 home runs and 36 RBI in 83 games for the WL's Tri-City Posse, earning a trial in the Chicago Cubs system. He wrapped up his career in the Pirates system in 1997.
Overall, Turlais hit .258/.308/.388 with 20 home runs and 113 RBI in 298 games.
