Biographical Information[edit]
Jesús Liranzo played in the minor leagues and in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Liranzo signed with the Atlanta Braves on May 4, 2012, and he allowed a run in one inning for the DSL Braves in his first season. He surrendered 3 runs in 2 1/3 innings in 2013, and the Braves released him on June 14. Liranzo signed with the Baltimore Orioles, and he gave up 18 runs in 10 1/3 innings for the DSL Orioles 2. He then underwent Tommy John surgery, and he missed the entire 2014 season. Liranzo improved to 3-2 with a 2.35 ERA for the DSL Orioles 1 in 2015, and he recorded a solid 1.05 ERA in 16 relief outings for the Delmarva Shorebirds in 2016. He also pitched 11 games with a 3.38 ERA for the Bowie Baysox, and he was 3-4 with a 4.85 ERA there in 2017.
The Orioles then traded him to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Luis Ysla, but he was soon designated for assignment. The Pittsburgh Pirates claimed him off waivers, and Liranzo completed 12 shutout innings with 4 saves for the Altoona Curve. He was promoted to the AAA Indianapolis Indians, and he went 2-3 with a 5.00 ERA and 3 saves. He went 2-1 with a 1.61 ERA in 20 relief outings for the Curve in 2019, but his ERA rose to 8.13 in 22 appearances in Indianapolis. The Pirates then released him, and he signed with the San Francisco Giants. However, the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the minor leagues, and he elected free agency on November 2.
Liranzo joined the Arizona Diamondbacks, and he recorded a 3.06 ERA in 16 appearances for the Reno Aces in 2021. He was 0-2 with a 8.36 ERA in 2022, and he was traded to the Detroit Tigers on July 6. Liranzo allowed 7 runs in 3 2/3 innings for the Toledo Mud Hens, and he was released on August 4. The Washington Nationals signed him, and he pitched 2 games with a 18.00 ERA for the Rochester Red Wings. He was released again on May 9, and he joined the independent Lancaster Barnstormers. Liranzo recorded a solid 0.90 ERA in 8 game, and that earned him a minor league contract by the New York Yankees. His ERA was 7.09 in 20 games for the AA Somerset Patriots, and he also pitched 6 games with a 1.29 EAR for the AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Liranzo then went 5-1 with a 2.67 ERA for the Patriots, but his ERA rose to 6.35 in 5 games with the RailRiders.
The Milwaukee Brewers signed him with a minor league contract, and he notched 6 saves with a 3.49 ERA for the AAA Nashville Sounds. He then signed with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows of Japan. Liranzo made his NPB debut on March 28, 2026, and he got his first strikeout against Dayan Viciedo.
