Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Jase Bowen was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 11th round of the 2019 amateur draft out of a high school in Toledo, OH. He gave up an opportunity to attend Michigan State University, where he was slated to also play football as a wide receiver, in order to sign with the Pirates. He started his professional career that year with the GCL Pirates, hitting .223 in 36 games, then had to sit out the 2020 season when the minor leagues were shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic.

After returning to action in 2021, he spent five more seasons in the Pirates system, reaching AA in 2023 and AAA in 2025. In 2023, playing mainly for the Greensboro Grasshoppers of the South Atlantic League, he hit .255/.327/.467 in 118 games, with 23 homers and 95 RBIs. He was named a post-season All-Star in the Sally League and a Pirates organizational All-Star. In 2024, with the Altoona Curve of the Eastern League in 2024, he fell to .241 with 10 homers and 43 RBIs in 110 games. In 2025, injuries limited him to 94 games, including a couple of rehabilitation outings, as he hit .272 with 9 homers and 37 RBIs.

Before the 2026 season, he signed as a free agent with the San Diego Padres and began the year with the AAA El Paso Chihuahuas. He was called up to San Diego on June 2nd to replace Nick Castellanos on the roster after hitting .292 with 13 homers and 36 RBIs in 49 games. He made his major league debut on the day of his call-up, starting in left field against the Philadelphia Phillies and going 1 for 3 with 3 strikeouts in a 3-2 loss.
