Biographical Information[edit]
Jamie Arneson pitched in the Cincinnati Reds system from 2006 to 2008 and in independent ball in 2009 and 2010. He peaked at Single-A.
He was drafted twice. Initially, he was taken by the San Francisco Giants in the 9th round of the 2004 amateur draft, but he opted not to sign. He did sign after being taken by the Cincinnati Reds in the 16th round of the 2006 amateur draft, a few picks after pitcher Austin Bibens-Dirkx. He was signed by scout Rex de la Nuez. He debuted by going 2-1 with a 3.35 ERA and 9.6 K/9 IP ratio for the Billings Mustangs in 2006. He then averaged a K per inning in 2007 before slipping to a 6.31 ERA in 2008. Departing the Reds organization, he played in the Frontier League, Golden Baseball League and American Association over the next couple years to wrap up his career.
Overall, he went 16-15 with a 5.25 ERA in 102 games (59 starts). In 326 innings, he allowed 305 hits and 273 walks (1.773 WHIP), while striking out 319 batters. Indeed, he was burdened by poor control throughout his career, as he twice walked more batters than innings pitched; in 2008, he had 94 BBs in 113 2/3 frames. He led the Pioneer League in the category in 2008 with 42; in 2009, he led the Frontier League with 50 BBs.
His brother, Zach Arneson, pitched professionally from 2011 to 2018.
