Biographical Information[edit]

Shortstop Jacob Gonzalez was drafted by the Chicago White Sox with the 15th pick of the 2023 amateur draft, out of the University of Mississippi. He played three seasons for Mississippi, batting .355 in 57 games as a freshman in 2021, being named Freshman of the Year in NCAA Division I, and .327 in 54 games in 2023. He reached double figures in home runs all three years. He was part of the Ole Miss team that won the 2022 College World Series and also played on the USA College National Team that year, appearing in the 2022 Haarlem Baseball Week, hitting .250/.333/.417; he had one of the event's three homers, alongside former big leaguer Roger Bernadina and Yohandy Morales.

After signing with the White Sox, he played 34 games before the ACL White Sox and the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers of the Carolina League in 2023, hitting .211 with 1 homer and 17 RBIs. In 2024, he started the year with the Winston-Salem Dash of the South Atlantic League and the Birmingham Barons of the AA Southern League. His slash line in 130 games between the two teams was .238/.307/.343 with 8 homers and 57 RBIs. In 2025, he started the year in Birmingham and was promoted to the AAA Charlotte Knights on July 26th. In 135 games, he batted .232/.307/.345 with 8 homers and 61 RBIs - a batting line almost identical to that of the previous year.

He started the 2026 season with Charlotte and after 52 games, he was hitting .317 with 17 homers and 62 RBIs. He likely would have been called up to Chicago in short order, but that came sooner than expected when the Sox had to place their outstanding first-year player, Munetaka Murakami, on the injured list with a pulled hamstring on May 30th. He made his debut the next day, May 31st, the day after his 24th birthday, as the starting first baseman against the Detroit Tigers, batting 6th. He went 1 for 3 in a 2-1 win.

His father Jess Gonzalez was a pitcher in the minor leagues in 1994 and 1995.
