Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Jack Brannigan was first called up to the majors by the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 7, 2026 when rookie SS Konnor Griffin was placed on the injured list with a torn tendon in a finger. Brannigan made his debut that same day as a pinch-hitter for Bryan Reynolds in the 7th inning, striking out against Connor Thomas of the Atlanta Braves. The Pirates were blowing away the Braves by then, with an 11=2 lead, and Jack remained in the game to play the final two innings at third base.

He was drafted by the Pirates in the 3rd round of the 2022 amateur draft, out of the University of Notre Dame. He was named an organizational All-Star in 2023 when he batted .275/.390/.524 with 19 homers and 54 RBIs in 87 games between the Class A Bradenton Marauders and High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers. He did not do quite as well in his next few seasons, hitting just .238 in 77 games for Greensboro in 2024, and .225 in 59 games for the AA Altoona Curve in 2025, missing time to injuries both years. In 2026, he had rehabilitation assignments in the Florida Complex League as well as with Bradenton and Greensboro, before joining Altoona and the AAA Indianapolis Indians. He had just played 6 games in AAA when he was called up to Pittsburgh ahead of schedule due to Griffin's injury.

His grandfather Thomas Brannigan also played baseball at Notre Dame, where he was a teammate of Carl Yastrzemski.
