Biographical Information[edit]

Hisatoshi Yamamoto played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years. His brothers Tatsuo Yamamoto and Hideo Yamamoto both played in NPB.

Yamamoto signed with the Dai Tokyo club when they were founded in 1936, and he went 3-for-18 in the spring season. He missed the next season due to military service, and he was 2-for-21 in 1938 spring season. He hit .207/.336/.304 in 34 games in the fall season, and he played 75 games with a .189/.286/.217 batting line in 1939. Yamamoto set the NPB record as he committed five errors in a game as a shortstop, doing it on October 20. He was 8-for-59 in 1940, and he left the team, probably because of military service. He returned in 1946 with the Chubu Nihon Dragons, and he was 6-for-37 that season. He hit .279/.362/.361 in 42 games in 1947, and he slumped to .146/.212/.208 in 1948. Yamamoto also set the NPB record as he collected 20 steals as a pinch-runner, and he held it until Shiro Fujise broke it in 1978. Yamamoto announced his retirement after the 1948 season.

Overall, Yamamoto hit .186/.293/.242 with 103 hits and 49 steals in 8 seasons in NPB.
