Biographical Information[edit]
Hideo Yamamoto signed with the Lion club in 1940, and he had a 3.28 ERA in 13 appearances in his first season. He went 7-19 with a 2.00 ERA in 1941, and he was 2nd in losses in the Japanese Professional Baseball League (9 behind Isamu Fukushi) and 10th in strikeouts (between Eiji Sawamura and Michio Nishizawa). Yamamoto went 2-5 with a 2.64 ERA in 1942, and he missed the next three seasons due to military service. He returned as a first baseman for the Goldstar club in 1946, and he only played 4 games for them that season. He was 6-for-33 in 1947, and he announced his retirement. His brothers Hisatoshi Yamamoto and Tatsuo Yamamoto both played in NPB.
Overall, Yamamoto was 9-27 with a 2.23 ERA, struck out 88 and pitched 375 1/3 innings in 3 seasons in NPB. He hit .153/.220/.182 with 27 hits at the plate.
