Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Heriberto Hernández was originally signed by the Texas Rangers as an international amateur free agent on December 13, 2017. When he made his major league debut as the starting left-fielder for the Miami Marlins against the San Francisco Giants on May 30, 2025, he was already with his third big league organization: after playing for the Rangers until 2019 and being with them when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the minor leagues in 2020, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in December of 2020 as part of the trade for 1B Nathaniel Lowe. He played in the Rays' system until the end of the 2024 season, then was signed by Miami as a free agent in November of that year.
Heriberto started the 2025 season in AAA with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. He was hitting .220 with 9 homers and 21 RBIs in 41 games when he was called up to the Marlins on the date of his debut. He went 0 for 1 with a walk before being replaced by pinch-hitter Jesús Sánchez in the 6th inning. He ended up playing 87 games that first season, hitting .266 with 10 homers and 45 RBIs. His OPS+ was 118 and his main position was left field, with games at DH and in right field as well. He had his first two-homer game on June 2, 2026 against the Washington Nationals. He followed C Joe Mack's 5th-inning homer off Miles Mikolas, the first of his career, with a solo shot, which was then followed in turn by another homer by Otto Lopez. This marked only the third time in franchise history that three batters had homered consecutively. He then hit another long ball in the 9th, this one off Mitchell Parker, as Miami won the game by a 7-3 score.
