Biographical Information

Hayato Shoji was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the 4th round of the 2009 NPB draft, but he mainly stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first eight seasons; he only got 6 at-bats for the big club. Shoji hit .294/.407/.397 in the minors in 2017, and he led the Western League in OBP. He was 3rd in runs (behind Naomasa Yokawa and Alejandro Mejia), 3rd in batting (between Shogo Sakakura and Hiroki Takahashi) and 8th in hits (between Sakakura and Ryota Imanari). Shoji was 0-for-14 in 2018, and he announced his retirement in 2019.
