Biographical Information[edit]
Haruo Narishige played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years.
Narishige was drafted by the Lotte Orions in the 8th round of the 1971 NPB draft, and he had a 4.68 ERA in 26 appearances in 1972. He only pitched 8 games with a 5.11 ERA in 1973, and he went 0-2 with a 2.73 ERA in 1974. Narishige struck out 2 in 1 2/3 shutout innings to get the win over Senichi Hoshino in the 1974 Nippon Series Game 2, and he pitched 1/3 of a shutout inning in Game 3. The Orions beat the Chunichi Dragons in 6 games. He then collected 2 saves with a 3.36 ERA in 27 games in 1995, and he pitched 12 games with a 4.06 ERA in 1996. Narishige improved to a 2.65 ERA in 50 appearances with 4 saves in 1997, and he was 2nd in appearances in the Pacific League (11 behind Masanori Murakami). However, his ERA rose to 5.40 in 29 games in 1978, and he was traded with Hiroyuki Yamazaki to the Seibu Lions for Masaaki Koga and Akira Kuramochi. Narishige allowed 11 runs in 7 1/3 innings in 1979, and he was traded to the Yomiuri Giants for Toshihiro Okita. His ERA was 4.73 in 6 games in 1980, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Narishige was 7-10 with a 3.95 ERA, struck out 227 and pitched 371 1/3 innings in 9 seasons in NPB.
