Biographical Information[edit]

"Hack has a pair of shoulders that appear to measure something like a city block across." - from a writer in the Chicago Daily Tribune, quoted in the SABR biography of Hack Miller

Laurence "Hack" Miller played six seasons in the major leagues and posted a .323 batting average. In the minors he played quite a few years for Oakland as well as for other teams, posting a .327 batting average in 12 seasons. Hack Wilson was given the nickname "Hack" after Hack Miller. The two were both relatively short but weighed close to 200 lbs. and hit for some power.

SABR has a biography of Miller, and says he used to do strongman stunts. He was a dock worker and crew boss in Oakland, CA after his playing days.

He is not to be confused with another player of the same name, James "Hack" Miller.
