Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Gavin Cross was selected by the Kansas City Royals with the 9th overall pick in the first round of the 2022 amateur draft, out of Virginia Tech. He had hit .328 with 17 homers and 50 RBIs in 57 games in his final season with the Hokies, after hitting .345 the year before.

He began his professional career in 2022, playing 3 games for the ACL Royals before moving up to the Columbia Fireflies of the Carolina League. In 29 games between the two teams, he batted .312 with 8 homers and 25 RBIs. In 2023, he spent the bulk of the season in the Midwest League with the Quad Cities River Bandits, before playing a couple of games in AA with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, where an injury ended his season on August 15th. His slash line in 96 games was .203/.298/.378, with 12 homers and 58 RBIs. He then played in the Arizona Fall League after the season. He did much better in 2024 when he spent a full season with the Naturals in the Texas League. He batted .261/.342/.428 in 101 games with 15 homers and 59 RBIs and was named to play in the 2024 Futures Game.

His father Adam Cross played in the minors from 1995 to 1997.
