Biographical Information[edit]
Fukuzo Tada played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 13 years.
Tada signed with the Tokyo Giants in 1941, and he went 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in his first season. He went 3-0 with a 4.38 ERA in 1942, and he also hit .133/.212/.183 1942. When Yasuo Kusunoki enlisted into the military, Tada was named their starting catcher and he hit .216/.303/.282 in 71 games. He then enlisted into the military and missed the next two seasons. Tada returned in 1946, and he played 105 games with a .249/.327/.343 batting line. He then went 12-14 with a 2.36 ERA in 1947, and he was 8th in strikeouts in the Japanese Professional Baseball League (between Tadayoshi Kajioka and Kozo Naito).
The Hyogo native went 13-9 with a 2.96 ERA in 1948, and he was 14-9 with a 3.34 ERA in 1949. He ranked 8th in strikeouts (between Hiroshi Nakao and Yoshio Tenbo), and he was 9th in ERA (between Tadashi Wakabayashi and Sadao Kondo). Tada went 14-9 with a 2.91 ERA in 1950, and he was 5th in ERA in the Central League (between Takashi Eda and Tsuguhiro Hattori) and 9th in strikeouts (between Masaichi Kaneda and Mototoshi Tahara). He allowed 5 runs in 2 1/3 innings in 1951, and he surrendered 10 runs in 4 2/3 innings in 1953. The Giants then sent him to the Kintetsu Buffaloes, and he became a catcher again. Tada hit .217/.272/.341 in 83 games in 1954, but he went 4-for-25 in 1955 and he announced his retirement. He then became an umpire for the Pacific League from 1956 to 1957, and he coached the Buffaloes in 1958. Tada was the pitching coach for the Toei Flyers from 1961 to 1966.
Overall, Tada was 58-45 with a 3.06 ERA, struck out 458 and pitched 1,042 2/3 innings in 9 seasons in NPB. He hit .223/.302/.312 with 325 hits and 17 homers as a batter.
