Biographical Information[edit]

Freddy Zamora Jr. has played as high as AAA and followed his father Freddy Zamora Sr. onto the Nicaraguan national team.

He hit .430 as a high school junior and .400 as a senior. He batted .303/.388/.412 as a freshman at Miami, going 20-for-24 in steal attempts. He was 7th in the Atlantic Coast Conference in steals. He remained steady at .297/.393/.447 with 46 RBI in 50 games in 2019, but missed 2020 due to injury. The Milwaukee Brewers still took him in the second round of the 2020 amateur draft, 53rd overall, between J.T. Ginn and Masyn Winn. He signed for a $1,150,000 bonus. The scout was Lazaro Llanes.

Baseball America rated him as Milwaukee's #6 prospect entering 2021. He had a solid summer between the Carolina Mudcats (.287/.396/.399 in 70 G) and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (.342/.435/.494 in 22 G), scoring 70 times in 92 games and winning praise for his glovework. Among Milwaukee farmhands, he tied Joe Gray for 3rd with 22 doubles, was 7th in runs (between Noah Campbell and David Hamilton), ranked 9th with 57 walks (between Campbell and Gray) and had the best OBP of anyone with 400+ PA. He missed most of 2022 with injury, though, only getting into 24 games for the Biloxi Shuckers. Healthy again in 2023, he hit .255/.352/.361 for Biloxi, stealing 17 bases in 20 tries. He was 8th among Brewers minor leaguers with 64 runs, between Isaac Collins and Dylan O'Rae.

In 2024, he struggled with Biloxi (.186/.336/.291 in 27 G) and the Nashville Sounds (.196/.294/.250 in 67 games after his move up to AAA). He was a part of Nicaragua's team that swept the 2026 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. After being shut out by South Africa's Dylan Unsworth and Justin Erasmus for 6 innings and down 1-0, he helped prevent an upset when he singled in Emanuel Trujillo. It was his only hit in 8 at-bats in the event but he had 3 walks and 2 RBI.
