Biographical Information[edit]

Eduardo Rivera reached the majors in 2026.

He was taken by the Oakland A's in the 11th round of the 2021 amateur draft and threw a shutout inning that summer for the ACL Athletics. With the same club the next summer, he had a 3.29 ERA; he struck out 22 but walked 11 in 13 2/3 IP. Moving up to the Stockton Ports, he fell to 2-7, 5.35 in 2023 with 75 K and 44 BB in 69 IP. Debuting in his native Puerto Rican League in 2023-2024, he was 1-1 with a 3.15 ERA for the Cangrejeros de Santurce.

After pitching for Stockton (2 Sv, 0 R in 2 2/3 IP) and the Lansing Lugnuts (0-1, 11.88 in 4 G) to begin 2024, he was let go by the A's. [1] Picked up by the Boston Red Sox, he also pitched that summer for the FCL Red Sox (1-1, Sv, 4.70 in 4 G) and Salem Red Sox (0-1, 1.99 in 6 G). He was 2-1 with a 1.15 ERA and 56 K in 39 IP for Santurce in the winter but was lit up for 7 runs (3 earned) in 2 2/3 IP as a reinforcement for the Indios de Mayagüez in the 2025 Caribbean Series. He had led the Puerto Rican League in strikeouts by 19 ahead of #2 Julian Garcia.

Rivera split 2025 between the Greenville Drive (3-1, 1.61) and the Portland Sea Dogs (1-5, 3.40 in 10 G), fanning 108 in 87 innings while allowing only 55 hits, though he walked 46. He was 6th in the BoSox chain in Ks, between Hayden Mullins and David Sandlin. He was 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA for Santurce that winter and pitched in the 2026 Caribbean Series. He was then picked up for the Puerto Rican national team in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. He dominated in a start against Panama and finished with a 4.05 ERA and 9 K in 6 2/3 IP. He tied Paul Skenes and others for 8th in the WBC in whiffs. [2] After starting the season with Portland, where he was 1-0, 0.90 in 2 starts, he made his major league debut for Boston on April 22, 2026, pitching in relief against their arch-enemy, the New York Yankees. He started his career on the right foot by striking out the first batter he faced, Jazz Chisholm, to end the 6th, and then went on to pitch 3 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, in a 4-1 loss.
