Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher David Sandlin was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 11th round of the 2022 amateur draft, out of the University of Oklahoma for which he pitched in the 2022 College World Series.
He started in professional baseball with the ACL Royals in 2022 and was traded twice before first reaching the majors. On February 17, 2024, he was traded to the Boston Red Sox straight up for P John Schreiber, then on February 1, 2026, he was traded to the Chicago White Sox along with P Jordan Hicks in return for P Greg Ziehl, with players to be named later on both sides of the deal. Sandlin first reached AAA with the Worcester Red Sox during the 2025 season and was a combined 9-6, 4.50 in 32 games between AA and AAA that year.
In 2026, he started the season on a rehabilitation assignment with the Winston-Salem Dash, then was promoted to the AAA Charlotte Knights on May 2nd. He started four games with Charlotte, with no decisions but an ERA of 0.75 in 12 innings and on May 26th he was called up to Chicago. He made his debut the next day as the starting pitcher against the Minnesota Twins and had an excellent outing, as after giving up a lead-off homer by Byron Buxton, he completely shut his opponents down, not giving up another hit and walking no one while striking out six. He received credit for the White Sox's 15-2 win.
