Biographical Information[edit]
Doug Latrenta was on Team USA in the 1979 Pan American Games. The St. Louis Cardinals took him in the 20th round of the 1979 amateur draft but he did not sign. The New York Yankees then chose him in the 23th round of the 1980 amateur draft, two picks after Orestes Destrade. He hit .294/.436/.399 with 52 walks and 56 runs in 68 games for the Oneonta Yankees, going 19-for-24 in steal attempts. He was 4th in the New York-Penn League in OBP, between Roger Frash and Kevin Shannon. He was second in runs (3 behind Mike Ciampa), 6th in steals and 5th in walks (between Fritzie Connally and Randy Filkins). Despite that success, he did not lay another season in pro ball.
