Rich Aurilia, John Franco, and Frank Viola are the biggest major league stars who went to St. John's University. The first major leaguer from St. John's was Frank Gilhooley.

Mario Cuomo, a gifted minor leaguer whose career was shortened due to injuries, also went to St. John's on the way to becoming governor of New York.
