Dean Jacobs made his South African national team debut in the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers; he was the first person from his hometown to play for the team. He made his debut against Australia, relieving Callan Pearce with a 3-0 deficit in the top of the 5th. He allowed two hits, two walks but only one run in two innings, striking out Stefan Welch. Robert Lewis-Walker relieved him in the 7th. In his other outing, he replaced Pearce in the bottom of the 8th with a 6-5 deficit against Australia in the finale. He walked Trent D'Antonio and Brad Harman had a bunt hit then Allan de San Miguel bunted into a two-run error by Jonathan Phillips and Jacobs retired James Beresford. Russell Olivier relieved and Australia would tack on another four runs before the inning was over.
He was the first South African hurler to give up a run in the 2019 Africa Cup Baseball Championship, surrendering three to Burkina Faso in the 1st inning of game 2 but South Africa still swept the event.
