Pearce was part of the first MLB African Academy in 2011. He was signed by Minnesota Twins scout Glenn Godwin in 2013, the first signee from the African Academy; Rowan Ebersohn would follow the next year. Pearce was 1-2 with a 6.04 ERA in 18 games for the 2014 GCL Twins. He improved to 0-1, 4.67 in 15 games for the same team a year later.
He debuted for the South African national team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers in Australia in February 2016. He was one of seven Twins farmhands in the qualifier, when no other team had more than two; he was joined by Ebersohn and Australians James Beresford, Logan Wade, Aaron Whitefield, Sam Gibbons and Todd Van Steensel. In his first game, he relieved Carl Michaels in the 4th against the Australian national team with a 3-1 deficit. He retired Luke Hughes, walked David Kandilas, got Allan de San Miguel on a force, walked Beresford and got Wade on a grounder. Dean Jacobs releived in the 5th. He also appeared in the tourney finale, also against Australia. He replaced Carl Michaels in the 6th with one out, a 4-4 tie and two men in scoring position and escaped the jam by retiring Brad Harman and de San Miguel. In the 7th, though, he gave up hits to Beresford, Mitch Dening (with one out), Stefan Welch and trent Oeltjen to make it 6-4. After South Africa closed it to 6-5 in the top of the 8th, he was relieved by Jacobs but South Africa got no closer and Pearce took the loss.
