David Morgan played his high school ball at Mission Viejo High School and was named league MVP his senior year in 2018. He then went to Orange Coast College where he won the 2019 CCCAA Baseball Championship with the Pirates. In his Freshman season Morgan batted .308 with two homeruns and 37 RBI. In his Sophomore season batted .287 with three homeruns and 17 RBI. He was a first team all Orange Empire Conference in both 2019 and 2021.
Morgan then transferred to nearby Hope International University of the NAIA for 2022. He hit .349 with 8 HR and 35 RBI. In 9 1/3 innings on the mound Morgan posted a 2.89 ERA with 13 strikeouts and 3 walks. After the 2022 season, Morgan played summer collegiate baseball with the Portland Pickles of the West Coast League. On August 1, 2022 he signed a contract with the San Diego Padres as an undrafted free agent. He spent the rest of 2022 with the ACL Padres where he was used strictly as a pitcher.
He moved up quickly through the Padres' system, reaching AA by the end of the 2024 season. He appeared in 68 games, all as a reliever in 2023 and 2024, and was 3-3, 5.04 with 3 saves the second year. He started 2025 back in AA with the San Antonio Missions but was promoted to the AAA El Paso Chihuahuas after just 7 games. He then pitched another 7 games in the Pacific Coast League, and in spite of giving up 8 runs in 5 2/3 innings, received the call to the Show on May 25th. He made his debut the next day, pitching two-thirds of an inning against the Miami Marlins and not giving up anything.
