Biographical Information[edit]

Dan Melendez played for the USA national baseball team and in the minor leagues, reaching AAA.

Melendez was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 7th round of the 1989 Amateur Draft, but he didn't sign and went to college. He represented the USA in the 1991 Pan American Games. The Los Angeles Dodgers selected him in the 2nd round of the 1992 Amateur Draft, and he hit .267/.361/.370 in 39 games for the Bakersfield Dodgers in his first season. Melendez crushed 7 homers with a .241/.286/.443 batting line in 1993 for the San Antonio Missions, then he missed the 1994 season due to injuries. He returned in 1995 and blasted 7 homers with a .261/.331/.371 batting line for the Missions, then he hit .238/.316/.307 in 67 games there in 1996. Melendez reached AAA that season, but his batting line fell to .152/.273/.196 in 31 games for the Albuquerque Dukes. He returned to AA in 1997, and he played 87 games with a .256/.363/.360 batting line. Melendez recorded a .280/.366/.367 batting line for the Dukes in 1998, and he left the Dodgers system. He hit .340/.488/.552 in 56 games for the Reno Blackjacks in 1999, but he slumped to .239/.345/.335 for the [[Feather River Mudcats ]] in 2000 and his professional career ended.
