Biographical Information[edit]
Dan Firova played professional baseball from 1980-1991. He made three brief appearances in the major leagues with the Seattle Mariners in 1981-1982 and Cleveland Indians in 1988. Firova played 17 games in the majors and did not record a hit in 7 plate appearances. In the entirety of his career, he appeared in almost 800 games, mostly at catcher.
After his playing career concluded, Firova turned to coaching and managing, primarily in the Mexican League. He started as a pitching coach for the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos in 1992 before managing the team for the next two seasons. Between managing gigs, Firova was the first base coach for the Tigres de México in 1996, bench coach for the Tigres de Quintana Roo in 2009, and bench coach of the Acereros del Norte until the end of June, 2019.
The Washington Nationals hired Firova in 2016 as bullpen coach under manager Dusty Baker. He stayed in this position through the 2017 season when he was let go following Baker's dismissal. Baker brought Firova to the Houston Astros in 2021 as the team's Quality Assurance Coach. Firova remained in this role through the 2023 season.
Firova also managed in the winter Mexican Pacific League for a few seasons with the Venados de Mazatlán. He managed the team from 2002/2003 through November 13, 2004.
