Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Colin Houck was the top draft pick of the New York Mets in the 2023 amateur draft, being taken with the #32 selection in Competitive Balance Round A, the result of the Mets' first pick being docked by ten ranks as a punishment for their exceeding the luxury tax threshold. Contrary to most other high schoolers taken in that first round, Houck had not played on the highly-talented team that had won the 2022 U-18 Baseball World Cup. He was also a star quarterback in high school, but gave that up to focus on baseball. He was slated to go to Mississippi State University, but the Mets convinced him to abandon those plans in order to sign with them.

Houck began his pro career in 2023 by playing 9 games for the FCL Mets, batting .241. The Mets used him at all three positions on the left of the infield that year, something which would continue during his two next seasons. In 2024, he spent the full season with the St. Lucie Mets of the Florida State League where he hit .206 in 112 games, with 5 homers and 51 RBIs. In 2025, he was back at St. Lucie at the start of the year, hitting .252 in 62 games, then was promoted to the Brooklyn Cyclones of the South Atlantic League on June 23rd. He found it harder at the higher level, with his batting average falling back under the Mendoza Line, at .198 in 54 games. His combined slash line in 116 games was .228/.315/.384, with 65 runs, 10 homers and 53 RBIs. He also was successful on 14 of 17 stolen base attempts.
