Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Charlee Soto was selected by the Minnesota Twins with the 34th pick of the 2023 amateur draft, coming in Competitive Balance Round A. Although born in Philadelphia, PA, he had gone to high school in Kissimmee, FL. He was the Twins' second selection in the draft, after they had taken another high schooler, OF Walker Jenkins, with the fifth overall pick. He had originally been a shortstop in college, but his size prompted a move to the mound, which proved a good fit as his fastball was timed at 98 mph. He was signed by the Twins for a signing bonus of $2.48 million.

Soto started his professional career in 2024 with the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels of the Florida State League, going 1-7, 5.23 in 21 games (20 starts). In 74 innings, he gave up 78 hits and walked 33 batters, but also struck out 87. While the numbers may not have been that impressive on the surface, he was very young for the league - almost four years younger than the average player in the circuit. In 2025, he made just three starts for the Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Midwest League before going on the injured list on April 29th with a right triceps strain, an injury from which he did not return that season. The three starts had been very good, though, as he had gone 0-1, 1.38, allowing just 2 runs on 9 hits in 13 innings, walking 4 and striking out 15 and he had earned Midwest League Pitcher of the Week honors on April 13th.
