Biographical Information[edit]
Brock Hopkins was a two-way player in college, where he appeared both in the outfield and on the mound. In his final season with Winthrop University in 2023, after transferring from the College of Charleston he batted .288 with 9 homers and 49 RBIs in 49 games, while going 1-5, 5.83 as a pitcher. However, when the Seattle Mariners selected him in the 6th round of the 2023 amateur draft, it was with the intention of having him concentrate on pitching.
In his first professional season in 2024, he was assigned to the Modesto Nuts of the California League where in 18 starts he went 4-3, 2.90, confirming that the Mariners' scouts had evaluated his potential correctly. However, any further development would have to come for another team, as on July 26th, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays along with OF Aidan Smith and a player to be named later (P Ty Cummings) in return for OF Randy Arozarena. The Rays had him finish the year with the Bowling Green Hot Rods of the South Atlantic League, where he went 1-3, 3.45 in 7 games. Overall, in 25 starts between the two teams, he was 5-6, 3.05, with 133 strikeouts in 155 innings. He was named the Pitcher of the Week once in both of the circuits in which he pitched that year.
In 2025, he was promoted to the Montgomery Biscuits of the AA Southern League, where he continued to impressed, going 5-7 but with a very good ERA of 2.72 in another 25 starts. He logged 116 innings, allowing 85 hits and striking out 141 opponents. He was named to the American League team for the 2025 Futures Game and was also a post-season All-Star in the circuit. He went to spring training with the Rays as a non-roster invitee in 2026, when he was ranked the #37 prospect in baseball by Baseball America.
He is the brother of OF T.J. Hopkins.
