Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Bret Prinz was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 18th round of the 1998 amateur draft and made his pro debut that summer. Originally a starter, he was moved to the bullpen with much success in 2000, notching 27 saves between the Class A South Bend Silver Hawks and the AA El Paso Diablos. He reached the majors in 2001 and notched 9 saves while spending part of the year as the D-Backs' closer after Matt Mantei was sidelined by injuries. However, he struggled mightily the next season, 2002, posting a 9.45 ERA.

After stints with the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and a time in the Colorado Rockies minor league system, he returned to the majors with the Chicago White Sox in 2007. He posted an 8.10 ERA in 4 outings and was outrighted to the AAA Charlotte Knights. Prinz refused the assignment, became a free agent, and spent the remainder of the year in the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates farm systems.
