Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Braxton Ashcraft was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2nd round of the 2018 amateur draft, out of high school. It took him a while to reach the majors, as he did not do so until May of 2025. That long journey included two interruptions: the first in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the minor leagues, and the second in 2022 when he missed the entire season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

He first reached AAA with the Indianapolis Indians in 2024, when he combined to go 3-2, 2.84 in 16 games between the AA Altoona Curve and AAA. he then started the 2025 season in Indianapolis. After 10 starts, he was 3-3, 5.03 when he got the call to Pittsburgh on May 26th. He made his debut that same day, pitching the final three innings of a 5-0 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks in relief of Andrew Heaney. He gave up just 2 hits and a walk during the stint.
