Biographical Information[edit]

Lefthanded pitcher Brandon Barriera was the top selection of the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2022 amateur draft, being taken with the 23rd overall pick out of a high school in Florida. Knowing that he would be a top selection in the draft, he made just 8 starts in his senior year of high school, going 5-0, before ending his year in order to avoid any potential injury. His confidence in being drafted highly came from having played for U.S. national youth teams in prior years.

The start of his career was marred by health issues. He waited until May of 2023 to make his professional debut, doing so for the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League. He a total of 6 starts for Dunedin and one with the FCL Blue Jays, interspersed with three separate stints on the injured list due to elbow and biceps injuries. When he was able to take the mound, he went 0-2, 4.42 in 18 1/3 innings. In 2024, he made one start for Dunedin, lasting 1 1/3 inning, before being shut down for the season as he underwent Tommy John surgery.
