Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Brad Fischer was not drafted out of college, but played one season in the Oakland Athletics farm system before spending eleven seasons as a minor league manager in the A's organization. From 1991-1995, Fischer was a minor league hitting instructor for the A's. He did double duty in the last two years as the organization's Assistant Director of Player Development. The A's promoted Fischer to the major league staff in 1996 and he remained on staff through 2007. During this period, he alternated between serving as the team's bullpen coach (1996, 1998-2002, 2006-2007 and first base coach 1997, 2003-2005.
Fischer left the Athletics following the 2005 season. He worked as a roving catching instructor and manager in the Pittsburgh Pirates chain in 2008 before joining the Milwaukee Brewers coaching staff later in 2008. After coaching third base on the 2009 and 2010 Brewers staff, Fischer returned to the Pirates' organization in 2011 as an Adviser to Player Development. Fischer was the Pirates' Minor League Field Coordinator in 2012-2014. In 2015 and 2016, he was a major league assistant coach with the Pirates. That was his last job on a major league staff. From 2017-2020, he was a Senior Field Coordinator. In the last year he also worked as the team's Minor League Catching Coordinator. While retaining his catching coordinator role in 2021, his other responsibilities shifted somewhat with a new title of Senior Advisor to Player Development. In 2022-2023, Fischer's title with the Pirates was Senior Advisor, Coaching and Player Development.
