Biographical Information[edit]

Bobby Reed pitched in the Texas Rangers system from 1990 to 1993, peaking at Double-A.

He was originally taken by the Chicago White Sox in the 41st round of the 1989 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. After making the 1990 Southeastern Conference Tournament All-Tournament team, he was taken by the Rangers in the 3rd round of the 1990 amateur draft, between cup-of-coffee major leaguers Chris Hatcher and Micah Franklin. He was signed by scouts Bill Earnhart, Doug Gassaway and Rudy Terrasas. He began with a 5-2 mark and a 1.21 ERA in 13 games (10 starts) between the Gastonia Rangers (3-1, 0.00 ERA in 38 IP) and Tulsa Drillers (2-1, 2.79 ERA in 29 IP) and followed that with a 4-4, 2.55 line in 12 games (11 starts) for Tulsa. After missing 1992, he returned in 1993 to go 6-7 with a 4.00 ERA in 15 starts between the Port Charlotte Rangers and Tulsa.

Overall, Reed went 15-13 with a 2.68 ERA in 40 games (36 starts). In 215 innings, he allowed 199 hits and 65 walks (1.228 WHIP), while striking out 111 batters.
