Biographical Information[edit]

Bob Lee was a long-time minor league pitcher who finally made it to the big leagues in 1964 with the Los Angeles Angels. Lee began his professional career in 1956 with the class-C Douglas Copper Kings and the Billings Mustangs in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. In 1961 he made it to AAA for the first time with the Columbus Jets. Lee would also spend all of 1962 in AAA with the Dallas-Fort Worth Rangers in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. In 1963 he was back with the Pirates and split time between Single-A & AA.

A hard thrower who had trouble controlling his weight, Lee had two excellent seasons as the club's top reliever in 1964 and 1965, making the American League All-Star team the second year. His 1966 season was also good, but his strikeouts were down markedly, indicating he had lost something off his fastball. He made 4 appearences for the Dodgers in 1967 before joining the Cincinnati Reds. In 1967 and 1968, pitching for the Reds he struggled, unsuccessfully, to regain his pitching form.
