Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Blake Mitchell was the 8th overall pick of the 2023 amateur draft, taken by the Kansas City Royals out of a high school in Texas. Before being drafted, he had played for the USA junior national team at the 2022 U-18 Baseball World Cup. He hit .133/.435/.467 with 7 walks in 8 games, fielding .968, throwing out 4 of 5 who tried to steal and struck out 6 in 3 2/3 IP, allowing one unearned run. He beat Sheng-En Lin of Taiwan in the title game. He tied for 3rd in walks in the tourney.
He made his professional debut in 2023, playing 13 games for the ACL Royals and batting .147. In 2024, he played 106 games for the Columbia Fireflies in the Carolina League and another 5 with the Quad Cities River Bandits, hitting a combined .232/.368/.424 with 18 homers and 51 RBIs. He was named a Carolina League post-season All-Star and a Low-A All-Star. In 2025, his season was truncated by an injury that forced him to miss the first half of the season. After an 11-game rehabilitation assignment in the Arizona Complex League, he played his first game for Quad Cities on July 8th and batted .207 in 49 games the rest of the way. He then played in the Arizona Fall League where he appeared in the Rising Stars Game.
He was a non-roster invitee to spring training with the Royals in 2026.
