He had a 3.51 ERA in 10 games in 1985, and he pitched 11 games with a 3.63 ERA in 1986. However, Shimada suffered from a right shoulder injury, and he missed the next four seasons. He was turned into an outfielder in 1991, and he hit .221/.361/.265 in 27 games. Shimada went 0-for-2 in 1992, and he had a .247/.306/.323 batting line in 59 games in [[[1993 NPB|1993]]. The Tigers then traded him to the Orix BlueWave for Kunji Yonesaki, and he was 3-for-19 in 1994. Shimada went 0-for-14 in 1995, then he was traded to the Chunichi Dragons for Shunsuke Kitamura. He only played 4 games in 1996, and he announced his retirement. His brother Munehiko Shimada also played in NPB.
