Biographical Information

Yosvani Pérez Ruiz was a three-time member of the Cuban national team.

He was 1-0 with a 0.90 ERA in the 1999 Intercontinental Cup with 10 K in 10 IP while Cuba won a Silver Medal; only Faustino Corrales had a lower ERA on their staff. Cuba won the Gold at the 2002 Intercontinental Cup but Yosvani, the club's lone left-hander, did not help matters; he allowed 4 hits, 2 walks and 3 runs in 2 2/3 IP for Cuba's highest ERA in the event.

In the 2005-2006 season, the last for Pérez, he led the Cuban Serie Nacional with 3 shutouts and his 2.30 ERA was .01 behind leader Noelvis Hernández. That earned him a spot on Cuba's squad for the 2006 World Baseball Classic, but he was again the country's worst hurler in an event. In his lone outing, he gave up 3 runs in one inning. Relieving Dennis Suarez against Puerto Rico with a 5-1 deficit in the 4th, he allowed a two-run single to Jose Cruz Sr. that ended the inning when another runner was thrown out going for third. In the 5th, he gave up a hit to Luis Matos. Jose Valentin grounded out, then Alex Cintron singled in a run. Alex Cora singled, then Bernie Williams flew out. Jonder Martínez relieved and let both inherited runners score.

Yosvani ended his career after the 2006 season with a career 59-82, 11 Sv, 4.05 record for a poor Cienfuegos club with a .285 opponent average. He had allowed 7 runs in 13 2/3 IP for the Cuban national team.
