Biographical Information[edit]

Yoshio Arai was drafted by the Hankyu Braves in the 5th round of the 1968 NPB draft, and he pitched 14 shutout innings for the big club in 1970. He only got 4 appearances combined in the next two seasons, and he had a 2.51 ERA in a career-high 51 appearances in 1973. He was 6th in games in the Pacific League, between Fumio Narita and Osamu Higashio. However, Arai only pitched one game in 1974, and he had a 9.00 ERA in 6 games in 1975. He was 1-1 with a 8.28 ERA in 1976, and the Braves traded him with Kazuyoshi Takemura to the Hanshin Tigers for Shinji Sasamoto. Arai only had 5 1/3 more innings for the top team, and he announced his retirement in 1978.

Overall, Arai was 3-5 with a 4.27 ERA, struck out 101 and pitched 197 2/3 innings in 8 seasons in NPB.
