Biographical Information[edit]
Yoshimi Ebara played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years.
Ebara signed with the Mainichi Orions in 1950, and he went 16-7 with a 3.67 ERA in his first season. He was the first Orions pitcher to get his first win on opening day, and it would be 62 years later that the second pitcher (Takahiro Fujioka) accomplish it (by then, they were no longer the Orions). Ebara was 8th in wins (10 behind Atsushi Aramaki) and 10th in strikeouts (between Nobuo Nakatani and Victor Starffin) in the Pacific League. He was 6-7 with a 4.36 ERA in 1951, and he improved to 8-5 with a 2.63 ERA in 1952. Ebara had a 13-8 record with a 2.82 ERA in 1953, and he ranked 4th in strikeouts (between Sadao Nishimura and Aramaki). He extended his solid performance in 1954, and he went 11-7 with a 2.56 ERA.
The Kyoto native went 4-5 with a 3.31 ERA in 1955, and he jumped to the Kintetsu Buffaloes. Ebara had a 5-5 record with a 2.59 ERA for his new team in 1956, and he went 12-13 with a 2.67 ERA in 1957. He was 9th in losses, tied with Fumio Takechi and Teruo Tanaka. Ebara slumped to 1-13 with a 5.56 ERA in 1958, and he tied Tetsuya Yoneda for 7th in losses. The Buffaloes then released him, and he signed with the Nankai Hawks. However, Ebara only pitched one game in 1959 and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Ebara was 77-70 with a 3.23 ERA, struck out 720 and pitched 1,273 1/3 innings in 10 seasons in NPB.
