Yoel Hernández was one of the top pitchers in Spain in 2007.

Hernández pitched two seasons in Cuba, going 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA in 9 games. In 20 innings, he allowed 25 hits and 13 runs, walked 9 and struck out 17.

In 2004, he pitched for Sant Boi in Spain. He was 10th in the league in ERA (2.27), struck out 132 in 99 innings and went 5-7.

In 2007, Yoel was probably the best pitcher in the Spanish league. He went 8-0 with a league-leading 0.56 ERA for Marlins Puerto Cruz with 83 strikeouts in 64 2/3 IP. Joining the Spanish national team, Hernández was 2-0 with a 0.62 ERA in the 2007 European Championship, but David Bergman was named as the All-Star RHP in the event. In the 2007 Baseball World Cup, the Cuban hurler was rocked. He was 0-2 with a 23.82 ERA, allowing 17 hits in 5 2/3 IP in losses to Italy and Mexico.

Hernández was 0-2 with a 5.06 ERA in the 2008 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament. He dueled Enorbel Márquez evenly for 7 innings against Germany before a Sascha Lutz homer gave the Germans a 1-0 lead; neither team scored again. He was less effective against Australia.

Hernández returned to CB Sant Boi for 2008, going 7-3 with a 2.15 ERA. He signed with Danesi Nettuno for 2009, following fellow Spanish national team members Dewis Navarro and Remigio Leal. He debuted on April 11, allowing 5 hits and one run in 2 2/3 innings after relieving Jeff Farnsworth and getting the decision in a 4-3 win over De Angelis Godo.
