Biographical Information[edit]

Yasuo Nagaike played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 12 yeas.

Nagaike was drafted by the Taiyo Whales in the 2nd round of the 1991 NPB draft, and he went 6-for-28 in 1993, by which time the team was the Yokohama BayStars. He hit .239/.337/.268 in 46 games in 1994, and his batting line was .258/.395/.290 in 1995. Nagaike slumped to .069/.156/.103 in 1996, and he struggled again as he only got one hit in 17 at-bats in 1997. The BayStars then traded him to the Yomiuri Giants for Hideyuki Awano. Nagaike played a career-high 65 games (getting only 34 plate appearances, as he was primarily an infield defensive sub)with a .226/.273/.290 batting line in 1998, and he was 6-for-22 in 1999. He only got 17 at-bats combined in the next two seasons, and he was traded with Hitoshi Ono to the Kintetsu Buffaloes for Hiroyuki Nakahama and Motohiro Yoshikawa. Nagaike recorded a .282/.378/.410 batting line in 2003, then he went 11-for-47 in 2004 and he was released. The newly-founded Rakuten Golden Eagles signed him, and Nagaike hit .194/.265/.323 in 2005. He didn't reach the big club in 2006, and he announced his retirement. Nagaike later became the minor league fielding coach for the Golden Eagles from 2007 to 2010, and he coached their top team in 2011 and 2015. He was also the fielding coach for the minors team of the BayStars from 2016 to 2017 and for their big club from 2018 to 2023

Overall, Nagaike hit .217/.308/.280 with 79 hits in 12 seasons in NPB.
