Yasuharu Fujio played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years
Fujio set the Spring Koshien record by reaching base in 11 consecutive plate appearances, and he was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the first round of the 1983 NPB draft. He was 13-for-86 in 1984, then he hit .217/.288/.283 in 1985. Fujio crushed 14 homers with a .286 batting average in the minors in 1986, but he only hit .175/.205/.250 with the big club. He was involved in a brawl in a bar in the middle of the season, and the Dragons suspended him for 10 days. Fujio played 18 games with a .235/.278/.353 batting line in 1987.
The Ichinomiya native was sent to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1988, and he hit .375/.451/.575 in 16 games for the GCL Dodgers and .200/.298/.325 in 19 games for the Salem Dodgers. He returned to the Dragons and went 3-for-22 in 1989, and he was traded with Yoshihisa Komatsuzaki to the Nippon Ham Fighters for Yukio Tanaka and Kazuo Hayakawa. Fujio hit .246/.331/.394 in 75 games in 1990, but he was 6-for-41 in 1991. He only played 4 games in 1992, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Fujio hit .220/.282/.340 with 92 hits and 10 homers in 8 seasons in NPB.
