Biographical Information[edit]

The New York Mets drafted Vance Wilson in the 44th round of the 1993 Amateur Draft from Mesa Community College. He gradually ascended through the Mets minor league system and made his major league debut in 1999. It took a couple of additional years before Wilson established himself as a full-time major league player. Wilson spent his final two major league seasons with the Detroit Tigers in 2005-2006. Over the course of his career, Wilson hit .250/.302/.377 while appearing in 403 games. He completed his playing career in 2009 in the Kansas City Royals minor league system.

Wilson joined the coaching ranks in 2011 and managed for several seasons in the Royals system (see below). After the 2014 season he also managed the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League. Wilson returned to the majors in 2018 when he was appointed bullpen coach for the Royals. In 2020, he moved over to third base coach and remained there through the 2025 season. Beginning in 2023, Wilson also served as the team's major league field coordinator.
