Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Trey Gibson pitched for Liberty University in 2021 and 2022 but was not drafted. After leaving the school, he played in the Cape Cod League in 2023 and in spite of doing quite poorly - he gave up 37 runs on 40 hits and 21 walks in 29 innings, he was signed as an amateur free agent by the Baltimore Orioles on August 9, 2023. He then pitched 2 innings for the FCL Orioles that year.
In 2024, he went 3-9 but with a good 3.72 ERA in 25 games between the Low-A Delmarva Shorebirds and High-A Aberdeen IronBirds. He continued his improbable rise through the system in 2025, when he pitched in High-A, AA and AAA, reaching the latter level in mid-August. In 26 games (25 starts), he went 5-8, 4.26 with a whopping 166 strikeouts in 120 1/3 innings. He was twice named the Eastern League Pitcher of the week, and also won the honor once in the International League. He started the 2026 season back in AAA with the Norfolk Tides. He went 2-2, 4.01 in his first six starts, then was called up to Baltimore on May 3rd in order to start that day's game against the New York Yankees. He gave up 3 runs in 4 2/3 innings, with Ben Rice and Aaron Judge both going deep off him, but the score was tied when he left and he ended up with a no-decision. That was before the Yankees exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the 8th to run away with the game.
