Biographical information[edit]
Tony Brottem was a big leaguer in parts of four seasons, making 62 appearances primarily behind the plate.
In 1921, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates who, after finishing in second place, voted to award Brottem only $200 instead of a full share. [1]
He once allowed seven St. Paul Saints to steal bases during a game October 5, 1923 at Parkway Field in Louisville as a member of the Louisville Colonels of the American Association.
He slit his throat in 1929, two weeks after being relieved of his catching duties by the Dayton Aviators.
