Biographical Information[edit]

The Cincinnati Reds drafted Tom Foley in the 7th round of the 1977 Amateur Draft from Miami Palmetto High School. Foley gradually rose through the Reds minor league system before making his major league debut in 1983. Over his 13 year career, Foley hit .244/.303/.344 while appearing in 1,108 games. He spent most of his defensive time at shortstop and second base.

Foley spent the next two plus decades coaching for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in various roles. Foley joined the expansion Devil Rays in 1996 when he served as both the Butte Copper Kings manager and the Devil Rays Minor League Field Coordinator. He was the Director of Minor League Operations for the next four years before returning to the Minor League Field Coordinator position in 2001. After the latter season, he managed the Maryvale Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League.

The Devil Rays promoted Foley to the major league staff in 2002 as the team's third base coach where he remained through the 2014 season. In 2015, he was named the Rays' bench coach under new manager Kevin Cash. Foley stayed in that position through 2017. Foley left on-field coaching in 2018 and spent the next two years as a Special Assistant to Baseball Operations. He retired after the 2019 season.
