Biographical Information[edit]
Toichi Yanagisawa signed with the Dai Tokyo club in 1936, and he was 1-for-7 in his first season. He hit .173/.210/.234 in 51 games in the 1937 spring season, and he had a .206/.282/.248 batting line with 13 steals in the fall season. He led the Japanese Professional Baseball League with 10 sacrifice bunts, and he tied Hisanori Karita for 6th in steals. Yanagisawa also became the first player in NPB history to steal 3 bases in an inning, doing so on August 29 against the Nagoya Kinko. He hit .233/.303/.311 in 31 games in 1938 spring season, and his batting line fell to .143/.314/.161 in the fall season. Yanagisawa went 0-for-4 in 1939, and he announced his retirement.
