Biographical Information[edit]
Tim Adkins pitched in the minor leagues from 1992 to 2004, spending time as both a starter and a reliever. Though he spent parts of three seasons at Triple-A, he never ascended to the majors.
He was taken by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 9th round of the 1992 amateur draft and was signed by scout Ben McClure. He pitched for the GCL Blue Jays his first campaign, going 6-2 with a 1.72 ERA in 11 games (10 starts). He followed that with a 5-6, 3.54 line in 16 games (15 starts) for the St. Catharines Blue Jays in 1993. By 1994, he was in the bullpen, where he would primarily remain through 1998. He spent four full years with the Dunedin Blue Jays, from 1995 to 1998.
He pitched for the Bridgeport Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League in 1999, then went 10-5 with a 3.43 ERA in 19 starts for the same club in 2000. He signed with the New York Yankees partway through the 2000 campaign, and reached Triple-A for the first time in 2001, making a single relief appearance for the Columbus Clippers. He joined the Detroit Tigers system in 2002, pitched in the Yankees and Cincinnati Reds systems in 2003 and spent another year in the Yankees chain in 2004 to wrap up his career.
Overall, Adkins went 57-50 with a 3.86 ERA in 435 games (91 starts). In 1012 2/3 innings, he allowed 967 hits and 475 walks (1.424 WHIP), while striking out 853 batters.
He later became a scout for the Chicago Cubs, signing Kenny Socorro, Matt Szczur and Tony Zych. His cousin, Jon Adkins, pitched in the major leagues.
