July 10: Today's featured birthday is that of Sam Marsonek, who turns 48.
- 1917 - The White Sox win the World Series, their last title in the 20th Century. Eddie Collins scores the winning run when home plate is left unprotected and he is chased vainly by Heinie Zimmerman.
- 1925 - The Pirates top the Senators for the third straight game to take the World Series in seven contests; Kiki Cuyler's bases-loaded double in the 8th is the key hit.
- 1946 - Enos Slaughter makes a "mad dash" from first base on a Harry Walker single to score the winning run in Game 7 of the World Series, giving the Cardinals the title over Boston.
- 1964 - Bob Gibson allows three home runs but still wins Game 7 of the World Series over the Yankees.
- 1970 - The Orioles top the Reds, 9-3, to win the World Series in five games; Brooks Robinson (pictured) is named World Series MVP for an amazing all-around performance.
